Tell us a little bit about yourself. Hobbies? Kids? Married or rocking the single life?
Born in Sri Lanka, raised in Dubai, Bahrain, Pakistan, the U.S, Australia and England, I now find myself settled in Toronto, where I met my husband, for the past seven years . Passions include entertaining, fashion, wine, dining, cooking, cocktailing, travelling, hunting for random fun events in the city and now… exploring all things baby related.
Tell us about your blog. What do you blog about? How long have you been blogging? Why did you start?
A branding specialist by profession, I find myself at home on maternity leave with nothing but poop and time on my hands, hence my three month old blog (www.babyandlife.com) to talk about my passions and how I strive to strike a balance between baby and self from the very start of motherhood. The blog discusses “lifestyle” – travel, entertaining, food and drink and baby related topics for the most part. My blog and my twitter account provide a glimpse into my life.
What do you hope to get out of blogging and what do you hope to give your readers?
Blogging is a great source for sharing some of life’s trials and tribulations and it is a great platform to initiate discussions with those who are on a similar journey. Moreover friends are always asking me for recipes, tips and advice on the most random things so the blog is a great way for me to share these with others. If someday I can make a living out of the blog and be a stay at home mom who is also mentally stimulated, then so be it!
How do you unwind?
Glass of wine, TV on, curled on the couch with the husband.
What’s your favorite song at the moment?
Don’t have one as I rarely listen to the radio. Just keep hoping that when I do find one, it’s not a nursery rhyme!
What is your favorite television program?
I’m a television junkie. I watch too much. Right now the best show is Homeland. The Killing comes a close second.
Are you reading anything good?
Lots of tweets and blogs.
If you could do any one thing (Ex. Skydiving, hiking up a mountain, writing a book) what would it be and why?
Travel around the world, blogging and eating my way through different cultures with the family.
What is one gadget you can’t live without?
My phone!
What’s the strangest talent you have?
I don’t experience jetlag!
What would your significant other want to tell us?
He’s a bit of a silent one, so hopefully not much. But I doubt that. Let’s not ask him – just in case. I wouldn’t be TOO interesting if he divulged much!
Sweet or salty snacks?
I like a mix of the two- salty caramel pecans anyone?
Favourite beverage?
A glass of Chivas 18. On the rocks.
Favourite food, care to share a recipe?
Let’s put it this way, for my last meal I’d like to have the following: Chorizo and cheese antipasto platter with some guacamole for starters, Manni Pittu with chicken curry , coconut milk and sugar (Sri Lankan dishes) for the main course, Crème Brûlée for dessert and finish off with a nice macchiato. Throw in wine pairings for the entire meal and I’m in heaven.
Can you speak any other languages?
Fluently? Yes Sinahala (language of Sri Lanka) and can get by in Urdu/Hindi. Studied French but it’s very rusty.
Have your traveled? Where?
Yes quite a bit. Benefit of having parents who work in the airline industry meant that I’ve been travelling since I was three months old! I’ve visited 5 of the 7 continents. I am yet to make my way to Africa and Antarctica. In fact I just got back from a jaunt to India, France and England with the family.
What is your all-time favourite movie?
Toss up between Jerry Maguire and Aladdin, okay the latter is a cartoon technically I suppose!
Favourite quote?
I’d rather be a Could Be if I cannot be an Are; because a Could Be is a Maybe who is reaching for a star. I’d rather be a Has Been than a Might Have Been by far, for a Might Have Been has never been, but a Has was once an Are !
