FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show – Review

We love family game nights in our house so when EA Games asked me if I wanted to try Family Game Night 4: The Game Show experience for our new XBox 360 with Kinect I couldn’t refuse.  It includes all of our favorite Hasbro games including Sorry Sliders, Connect 4, Yahtzee and includes a couple of games that were new to us – Scrabble Flash and Bop It.  For each part of the game completed each player earns Monopoly money, but you don’t get to find out how much until the end when it rains money. If only it rained money like that in real life!

A bit about the game from their website:

Now you’re part of the action! In FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show, you can experience the fun and excitement of the popular TV show right in your own living room!

This time you’re playing with larger-than-life pieces in re-imagined versions of your favorite Hasbro games. CONNECT 4 Basketball is more fun than ever as you shoot hoops to get 4 balls in a row and YAHTZEE! Bowling puts a whole new spin on the popular dice game. You’ll also find fun new versions of SCRABBLE Flash, SORRY! Sliders, and BOP-IT Boptagon, and win MONOPOLY Crazy Cash, just like the game show! Play with friends and family and compete to prove your family is the best!

The kids and I spent a fun afternoon putting this game though it’s paces.  My oldest daughter and I battled it out first and she royally kicked my rear end.  I did have some issues with getting used to moving the pieces with the Kinect, but I am sure it was more of me not being familiar with the Kinect quite yet.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Our favorite part of the game was Connect 4 basket ball.  It was so much fun seeing who could get 4 balls in a row while blocking each other!  Sorry sliders came in a close second.  Bop It was fun but all of us had multiple times when the Kinect didn’t seem to pick up our movements.  All in all I have to say that this is a great way to change-up Family Game Night and get some exercise while having fun with the family.  It will be a regular addition to our family game nights and everyday XBox time.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT 4: The Game Show is rated E for everyone, but because of the spelling element and Yahtzee I would say it’s better suits to kids 7-year-old and up.  My younger children at almost 4 and 6 had fun with some of the games, but had their big sisters stand in for others.  You can play the game without the Kinect system, but it’s way more fun to actually be part of the action with up to 2 players.

Hasbro Family Game Party 4: Game Show Edition is available at most major retailers and is available for play on the XBox 360 with Kinect, Wii and Playstation 3.

Do you have a favorite game for family game night?
